Marlen Trujillo, PhD, MBA, CHW, has over 20 years of experience in community health addressing health disparities in medically underserved areas. She has a doctorate in public health from the University of Texas, an MBA in International Business from Our Lady of the Lake University and a BBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Houston. She became a Community Health Worker in 2018.
She has served as the chief executive officer of the Spring Branch Community Health Center (SBCHC), a nonprofit and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) since January of 2008.
Trujillo was one of the community leaders on the founding Board of the community-based health center in 2002. SBCHC has eight clinic locations and two mobile health clinics serving more than 30,000 individuals in need with a $27 million budget.
Trujillo serves on local boards including the Spring Branch Leadership Institute, Spring Spirit, Texas Association of Community Health Centers and advisory committees like the CHW Advisory Committee at Texas HHS, UH HEALTH Center for Addictions Research and Cancer Prevention, UH AIM-AHEAD South-Central Hub plus RICE Path to Wellness Project.
Her years of building strong partnerships with community leaders, nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations, local government and philanthropic groups reflect her collaborative leadership style.
