
Philip Patrick Sun has more than 30 years of experience in architecture, planning and healthcare and has served in executive leadership roles for numerous public, private and non-profit organizations, including Harris Health.
Throughout his career his responsibilities have included comprehensive management of organizations and their capital programs including planning, design, construction along with finance and administration, facility management, security, information technology, ancillary services departments and real estate portfolios. In addition, he has led the building of strategic alliances externally and internally for many organizations throughout the United States and the world.
Sun managed and directed an award winning 1,000 bed replacement program for two major teaching hospitals and major support facilities which received gold medals from the Texas Hospital Association and the Texas Society of Architects—all within budget and schedule. The program was coordinated with the planning and development of a comprehensive outpatient clinic system of Community Health Centers. He has been recognized with best practice awards from the Governor of Washington State and from HRSA.
He is a USA representative at the Union of International Architects Public Health Group. He is active locally with organizations such as the Houston Taipei Society, Chinese Professional Club, Chinese American Citizens Alliance and the newly formed Harris County Asian American and Pacific Islander Commission.
He is an avid speaker and has given numerous courses at the graduate level at Rice University, Baylor College of Medicine, Trinity University (San Antonio), International Islamic University (Malaysia) and a co founder and Associate Professor in the College of Architecture's "The Health Institute." His focus area is in program management, decision management, value stream delivery, administration, planning and development.
Sun earned a Bachelor of Arts and a professional degree in Architecture in a dual program with the University of Texas School of Public Health thus specializing in healthcare. He was a founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects, and a member of American Society of Healthcare Engineers and currently an Emeritus member of the AIA, NCARB, ACHA and NCARB.
