Low Sodium/Sodium-Restricted Diet (gray kit)

Your physician has ordered a special diet for you based on your current medical condition.

You’re on a low sodium diet, which means the foods and fluids you’re receiving are low in sodium. Sodium is a mineral you need to help with important processes in the body. One teaspoon of salt contains about 2,300 milligrams of sodium. With some medical conditions, including cardiovascular/heart disease, kidney disease and edema (swelling), limiting sodium intake to 2,300 milligrams per day or less may help lower blood pressure and improve symptoms.

Many of the foods you’ll receive are naturally low in sodium or are unprocessed because many processed or pre-packaged foods tend to be higher in sodium. The foods you receive should meet your main dietary needs and will be adjusted by your dietitian if needed.
