Data continues to provide us with knowledge that informs the way we care for patients. It also helps us focus energy and resources on areas with the highest likelihood of promoting health. During the pandemic, we have collected data on patients with COVID-19 who were hospitalized and sadly those who succumbed to the infection. Recently we have looked back at the vaccination status of those individuals to assess the correlation between hospitalization, death and vaccination status.
As expected, the vast majority of hospitalized patients have been unvaccinated. This was true before the vaccine roll out and is still true today. Vaccines save lives and reduce morbidity and mortality. Below you will see the system-level data that shows an association between being unvaccinated and hospitalization and death. This data reaffirms our efforts to increase vaccination rates among both patients and employees.
