Harris Health System’s LBJ Hospital Again Earns Nursing’s Pathway to Excellence®
Harris Health System’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital has received its nursing re-designation as a Pathway to Excellence® hospital awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. There are only 147 such designated hospitals nationwide. The designation is a prestigious recognition awarded to hospitals that offer robust work environments for nurses and tout high nursing satisfaction rates.

Ben Taub Hospital Is Two-Time Recipient of National Award for Cardiac Care
For the second year in a row, Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital has received the Mission: Lifeline® Gold Plus Receiving Center award from the American Heart Association for its care of severe heart attack patients.

The award recognizes the hospital among the best in the country for its success and prompt care of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) cases—heart attacks caused by a blood flow blockage to the heart muscle. As a STEMI-receiving center, Ben Taub Hospital has the equipment and expertise to offer patients percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), a minimal surgical procedure to quickly unclog blood vessels, and is only available in 25 percent of hospitals in the U.S.

Ben Taub Hospital Stroke Center Recognitions Mean Expert Care
Ben Taub Hospital’s stroke center received three state and national certifications and accreditations from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, DNV Healthcare and the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council. The awards place the Harris Health System hospital among elite facilities in the U.S. to offer cutting-edge stroke procedures, treatments and therapies.

 

 

Ben Taub Hospital Newborn ICU Garners National Award for Patient Care
The neonatal intensive care unit for sickest of newborns at Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital is the only Gold Level recipient of the Beacon Award for Excellence in Texas. The prestigious designation is awarded to hospitals with exceptional patient care and is given by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.


 

Ben Taub Hospital Surgical Unit Garners National Award for Patient Care
Known for its life-saving care, the surgical intermediate care unit at Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital now has the distinction of being one of two intermediate units in Houston, and one of three in Texas, to receive the Beacon Award (Silver Level) for Excellence in patient care by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. 

 

Ben Taub Hospital Earns Coveted International Baby-Friendly Designation
Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital has earned the coveted international recognition of Baby-Friendly Hospital, joining a select number of such facilities in Houston and Texas. The designation means the hospital meets or exceeds rigorous guidelines that promote high levels of newborn breastfeeding and mother-baby bonding.  

 

 

Ben Taub Hospital Earns More National Recognition for Cardiac Care
Ben Taub Hospital was recently designated a Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI (the minimal surgical procedure that uses a balloon catheter to unclog blocked vessels in STEMI patients) by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. Additionally, the hospital has earned the Platinum Performance Achievement Award ACTION Registry®—GWTG™ from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry—a distinction only awarded to 319 hospitals in the country.

Harris Health Earns Employer CEO Cancer Gold Standard™
The CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer is given to organizations for their work in promoting healthy lifestyle choices, encouraging early detection through cancer screenings and ensuring access to quality treatment for its employees. Harris Health is one of only three other hospital systems in Texas to receive the accreditation.

 

Named CNOR Strong for High Number of Certified Nurses
Harris Health System’s Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson hospitals have been named CNOR Strong by the Competency and Credentialing Institute because of its high number of certified nurses in the operating rooms (CNOR) staff.

To achieve the recognition, hospitals must have more than 50 percent of operating room nurses certified, a rigorous process that involves nurses mastering high standards of perioperative practices.

Stroke Center Achieves New “Elite Plus” National Award
Ben Taub Hospital is the recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®- Stroke Gold Plus-Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Award. The newly created elite award means the hospital achieved high marks for response and care provided for acute ischemic strokes, the most common stroke—87 percent of all cases—in America.

The recognition places Harris Heath System’s Ben Taub Hospital among an exclusive group in southeast Texas capable of offering specialized care for the most complex stroke patients.

Harris Health Recognized Among “Best 50”
Harris Health System has been named among the “Best 50” healthcare providers in the U.S. and Canada for its industry-leading efforts in supply chain management by the Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX), a worldwide healthcare technology company.

In healthcare, supply chain management involves all activities tied to supplies and equipment needed to take care of patients. Harris Health System Achieves “Most Wired” For Fifth Consecutive Year
For the fifth year in a row, Harris Health System earned the “Most Wired” recognition in the 17th annual survey and benchmarking study conducted by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. This year, Harris Health joins two other healthcare systems in greater Houston and 15 others in Texas to be recognized as Most Wired.

 

Harris Health System Receives Prestigious Medical Home Designation
Harris Health System is the first healthcare system in Houston to achieve Physician Practice Connections-Patient-Centered Medical Home designation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

 

THA’s Excellence in Community Service Award
Harris Health System is the Texas Hospital Association’s Excellence in Community Service Award recipient. The award recognizes the system’s work to identify and treat HIV-positive patients through its Routine Universal Screening for HIV (RUSH) program.

PM&R Program Receives CARF Accreditation
Harris Health System’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Program at Quentin Mease Community Hospital was awarded a three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), the organization’s highest quality rating for PM&R programs. This is the third consecutive three-year accreditation HCHD has been awarded by CARF.

Harris Health System Earns Accreditation from DNV Healthcare
Harris Health System announces that it has achieved national accreditation from DNV Healthcare, the only hospital accreditation program approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that integrates the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation. DNV’s NIAHOR accreditation program requires hospitals to evaluate the continuum of patient care throughout its facilities and take measured steps to improve when it is warranted.
