The Harris Health System Graduate Nurse Residency Program is an evidence-based and organizationally constructed program whose goals include best-practice guidelines aimed at supporting new graduates transition to practice.

This 12-month program is designed to provide a collaboration of education and practice aimed at providing new graduates planned practice experiences with qualified nurses who have received formal training in their role as preceptor. New graduates receive support from their preceptor, education and leadership teams in the development of five transition core competencies, which include communication and teamwork, patient centered care, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and informatics.

 Residency Requirements:

  • Current copy of résumé
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing (BSN required)
  • GN permit or RN license from the state of TX prior to beginning employment
  • Graduate nurse with less than one year experience
  • Two letters of recommendation from current nursing faculty
  • Current nursing school transcript (Official transcript to be submitted by initial interview)
  • Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider

*Ideal candidate will have a GPA of 3.0 or greater
