Food Rx - Culinary Medicine Program

Patients have the opportunity to participate in a multi-class cooking series where they will focus on:
  • Healthy cooking methods
  • Knife skills
  • Nutrition education in an interactive kitchen setting by cooking with cost-effective ingredients
  • Building a community with fellow patients
The Our Kitchen/Nuestra Cocina classes use UTHealth School of Public Health’s evidence-based curriculum which teaches basic knife skills, healthy cooking methods, mindful eating, SMART goal setting and grocery shopping tips. The cooking techniques taught in class include roasting, microwaving, sautéing and stir-frying. Each class is led by trained registered dietitians, health educators and community health workers. Our Kitchen/Nuestra Cocina classes are currently offered several times throughout the year in both English and Spanish.
