Employment Policy

Purpose: To describe the employment process for Harris Health.

  • Employment Classifications:
    • FLSA Status:
      • Exempt: Positions that meet the criteria under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and are exempt from overtime pay.
      • Non-Exempt: Positions paid overtime for productive hours worked beyond forty (40) hours per week, as required by FLSA
    • Full-Time: 32+ hours/week, benefits eligible
    • Part-Time: 16–31 hours/week, benefits eligible (pro-rated PTO)
    • Temporary: Non-benefits eligible; include PRN and Registry staff
  • Job Posting:
    • Positions may be posted externally and/or internally and for at least 3 business days.
  • Application Guidelines:
    • There are no questions eliciting information concerning political affiliation, race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, creed, marital status, or disability.
    • Misrepresentation on an employment application will lead to rejection or termination of employment
  • Internal Talent Mobility:
    • Portable skills may substitute for experience.
    • Employees on performance improvement plan are ineligible to apply for other positions. 
  • Pre-Employment Screening:
    • Offerees will be subjected to a medical assessment; drug testing, licensure verification, and criminal background checks will be conducted as a condition of employment.
    • Compliance checks against OIG and sanction lists are conducted on all offerees.
  • Form I-9:  
    • A form I-9 is required for identity and work authorization verification on all offerees.
  • Notification:
    •  All applicants who interview but are unsuccessful in the recruitment process shall be notified by letter.
