Texas Public Information Act Requests

The Texas Public Information Act (”PIA”) allows the public the right to request access to information from the Harris County Hospital District d/b/a Harris Health System (“Harris Health”). Pursuant to Chapter 552.234, Texas Government Code, Harris Health has designated the Office of Corporate Compliance to receive and process PIA requests. Harris Health’s Office of Corporate Compliance only handles PIA requests for information for Harris Health. If you are seeking information from Harris County or any of its departments or from any Harris County elected official, please note that these are separate legal entities and you must contact those offices directly.

The PIA applies to Harris Health when Harris Health receives a written request for information during normal business hours on non-holiday, regular workdays. The request must ask for information that is already in existence. The PIA does not require Harris Health to create new information, compile data, conduct legal research, or answer questions.

To submit a PIA request to Harris Health, a written request should be sent directly to the compliance office as directed below. A PIA request is considered to be received by Harris Health when a requestor uses one of the four options below to submit his or her request:

By email:
TPIArequests@harrishealth.org

By mail:
Harris Health System - Office of Corporate Compliance

Minimum suggested information to help expedite your request:

  • First and last name;
  • A specific description of the information or documents you are requesting; and
  • Any information that will help identify the records including names, types of records, dates, case numbers, etc.
  • At your discretion, you may also choose to waive access to information that is confidential or subject to an exception to public disclosure.

OR

  • You may request a Public Information Form directly from the Texas Attorney General’s Office, which contains the option of excluding information that Harris Health determines is confidential or is subject to an exception to public disclosure.

Note: any costs associated with your request will be processed in accordance with Government Code, Chapter 552 and the Attorney General Cost Administrative Rules.

Please contact the Office of Corporate Compliance at 346-426-1505 if you have any questions regarding the PIA request process.
