Termination of Employment Policy

Purpose: It is the policy of Harris Health to provide a process for termination of employment of regular full-time, part-time and supplemental employees.
  • Definitions:
    • Proper Notice: Written notice of voluntary termination at least 14 calendar days before the last day of employment.
    • Voluntary Termination: Employee-driven relinquishment of a position, which includes job abandonment.
    • Involuntary Termination: Termination of employment for cause or, in accordance with Harris Health policies (e.g., Corrective Action, Reorganization, Restructuring, and Permanent Reduction in Workforce for Positions Below Director-Level or Severance Benefits for Positions at the Director Level and Above).
  • Resignation:
    • Once proper notice is given, employees are expected to work throughout the remainder of their employment.
    • PTO requests received after the notice is given will not be approved.
    • Withdrawal of notice requires leadership approval.
  • Payment of Benefits:
    • PTO balances will be paid out in accordance with policy 6.03.
    • Supplemental/Registry employees do not receive termination benefits.
    • Deductions from final paycheck will occur for money owed or unreturned property allowed by law.
  • Ineligibility for Rehire:
    • ​Eligibility for rehire will be determined by the termination of reason in accordance with policy 6.24.
