What is the minimum age to volunteer? 
The minimum age to volunteer is 18. However, for the Summer Junior Volunteer Program, the minimum age is 14.

Where can I volunteer?
You can volunteer at our hospitals and community health centers, we have a place for you!

What is the process?
Complete an online application, submit required vaccination records, undergo a criminal background check, attend a volunteer orientation and schedule an in-person interview with a volunteer manager.

What vaccinations are required?
• Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) for individuals born after 1957
• Varicella (Chicken Pox)
• Pertussis

I don’t have those vaccinations. What do I do?
Check with your healthcare provider or use these community resources to get the needed vaccines.

How long does the application process take?
Approximately 2-3 weeks from the date an online application and proof of vaccination is submitted.

Will I be able to “shadow” a physician? 
No. Volunteers do not provide clinical care for patients.

Is there a uniform?
Yes, volunteers must purchase a vest or shirt. The cost is $15.

Will volunteering lead to eventual employment?
Volunteering provides great experience, but is completely separate from Harris Health System’s human resources function.

May I volunteer to complete court ordered community service?
No. At this time, we do not provide opportunities for court-ordered service.
