Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is the "...conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence..." in making clinical practice and policy decisions (Sacket et al., 2000).
EBP is a problem-solving approach that integrates a systematic search for and critical appraisal of the most recent and relevant evidence to answer a pertinent clinical, educational, or administrative question. While also considering the patient's unique values, circumstances, and preferences, EBP integrates clinical judgment expertise with the best available external clinical research evidence. Harris Health System Nursing has adapted the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-based Practice Model as its EBP methodology. The Director of Nursing Research leads Harris Health System in ensuring nurses are educated in EBP and apply EBP principles in their daily practice.
