Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) - The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's mission is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare for all Americans. As 1 of 12 agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, AHRQ supports research that helps people make more informed decisions and improves the quality of healthcare services. AHRQ was formerly known as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) - The FDA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics and products that emit radiation, and by regulating the manufacture, marketing and distribution of tobacco products.

Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) - The Office for Human Research Protections provides leadership in the protection of the rights, welfare and wellbeing of subjects involved in research conducted or supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. OHRP helps ensure this by providing clarification and guidance, developing educational programs and materials, maintaining regulatory oversight, and providing advice on ethical and regulatory issues in biomedical and social-behavioral research.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) - The National Institutes of Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency, making important discoveries that improve health and save lives. Thanks in large part to NIH-funded medical research, Americans today are living longer and healthier. Life expectancy in the United States has increased from 47 years in 1900 to 78 years as reported in 2009.

National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) - The National Institute of Nursing Research is one of 27 Institutes that comprise the National Institutes of Health. NINR supports and conducts clinical and basic research and research training on health and illness across the lifespan. The Institute's research focus encompasses health promotion and disease prevention, quality of life, health disparities and end-of-life.
