Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital has received eight national recognitions for its treatment and care of heart attack, heart failure and stroke patients from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. This comes on the heels of the hospital recently earning a Chest Center with Primary PCI Accreditation and a Chest Pain—MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology.

A farm-to-hospital nutritional program at Harris Health System's Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital for patients suffering from food insecurity won top honors as Grand Prize Winner of the 2019 Innovation Challenge Award by the American College of Physicians.

Ben Taub Hospital Receives Mission: Lifeline®-STEMI Receiving Center – Gold Plus
Ben Taub Hospital received the 2019 Mission: Lifeline® Gold Plus Receiving Center award from the American Heart Association for its treatment of severe heart attack patients. The award recognizes the hospital among the best in the country for its success and prompt care of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) cases—heart attacks caused by a blood flow blockage to the heart.

For the fifth year in a row, Harris Health System's Ben Taub Hospital cardiac service, which specializes in less-invasive catheter procedures, has been recognized with the Mission: Lifeline® NSTEMI-Gold Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.

Ben Taub Hospital is quickly building its reputation for outstanding stroke care, evident by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s recent recognition of the Harris Health System hospital with its Get with the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus. The national award marks the fourth for the hospital in successive years.

Chest Pain Center v5 with Primary PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology Accreditation Services in collaboration with the American Heart Association Hospital Accreditation (three-year accreditation).

The Performance Achievement Award recognizes hospitals who have demonstrated sustained, top level performance in quality care and adherence to guideline recommendations.

For the second consecutive year, the American Heart Association (AHA) awarded Harris Health System the Gold Workplace Health Achievement for creating and implementing quality health programs in the workplace. This award echoes AHA’s mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Harris Health System Receives American Legion Award for Older Workers
Harris Health System recently received the Employer of Older Workers Award for the State of Texas from the National Veterans Employment and Education Commission of The American Legion. Harris Health is the only healthcare provider recognized in the state this year.

Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital received its designation as a Pathway to Excellence® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  The designation is a prestigious recognition awarded to hospitals that offer robust work environments for nurses and tout high nursing satisfaction rates.

 

Ben Taub Hospital MICU Garners National Award for Patient Care
The Medical Intermediate Care Unit at Ben Taub Hospital is the Silver recipient of the Beacon Award of Excellence in Texas. The prestigious designation is awarded to hospitals that signify continuous learning and effective systems to achieve optimal care.

 

Harris Health’s Smith Clinic Earns ‘Center of Excellence’ for Breast Imaging Services
Harris Health System has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), joining an elite group of imaging facilities in Texas.The accreditation is considered the gold standard in the industry for image quality and safety. By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy) and breast MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) including MRI-guided biopsy. 

Health Centers are Recognized by NCQA as Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home
Harris Health System Ambulatory Care Services health centers area recognized by National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Homes. The Patient Centered Medical Home is a model of care delivery that emphasizes care coordination and communication to improve patients' experience of care and medical outcomes, all of which complement Harris Health's mission to improve quality and the health of our community.

Healthcare for the Homeless Program Receives Quality Improvement Award
The Healthcare for the Homeless Program received the 2017 Quality Improvement Award from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. As a health center quality leader, Harris Health achieved placed in the top 30 percent of the adjusted rankings for clinical quality measures. 

 

Ben Taub and LBJ Hospitals Earns Coveted International Baby-Friendly Designation
Harris Health System’s Ben Taub and LBJ Hospitals have earned the coveted international recognition of Baby-Friendly Hospital, joining a select number of such facilities in Houston and Texas. The designation means the hospital meets or exceeds rigorous guidelines that promote high levels of newborn breastfeeding and mother-baby bonding.

There are only 147 such designated hospitals nationwide. The designation is a prestigious recognition awarded to hospitals that offer robust work environments for nurses and tout high nursing satisfaction rates.

 Ben Taub Hospital Newborn ICU Garners National Award for Patient Care
The neonatal intensive care unit for sickest of newborns at Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital is the only Gold Level recipient of the Beacon Award for Excellence in Texas. The prestigious designation is awarded to hospitals with exceptional patient care and is given by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
 

Named CNOR Strong for High Number of Certified Nurses
Harris Health System’s Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson hospitals have been named CNOR Strong by the Competency and Credentialing Institute because of its high number of certified nurses in the operating rooms (CNOR) staff. To achieve the recognition, hospitals must have more than 50 percent of operating room nurses certified, a rigorous process that involves nurses mastering high standards of perioperative practices.


THA's Excellence in Community Service Award
Harris Health System is the Texas Hospital Association’s Excellence in Community Service Award recipient. The award recognizes the system’s work to identify and treat HIV-positive patients through its Routine Universal Screening for HIV (RUSH) program.

 

Harris Health System Earns Accreditation from DNV Healthcare
Harris Health System announces that it has achieved national accreditation from DNV Healthcare, the only hospital accreditation program approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that integrates the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation. DNV’s NIAHOR accreditation program requires hospitals to evaluate the continuum of patient care throughout its facilities and take measured steps to improve when it is warranted.
