Marcia Johnson, JD

Marcia Johnson has been a law professor at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University for almost thirty years. She is the founder of the Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy at the law school. The institute has been the university’s leading think tank and legal service provider since its founding in 1992. Johnson also co-founded the Urban Research and Resource Center, a non-profit corporation, in 2016.

Johnson has taught business associations, professional responsibility, civil procedure and real estate transactions and has co-authored several casebooks. She has also authored numerous articles that address issues of disproportionality and disparities that negatively impact marginalized people.

She has long been involved in community activism and has served on numerous public boards including the Texas High Speed Rail, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO), Texas Bar Ethics Commission, Annam Community Development Corporation and organizations in the third ward and Acres Homes.

Johnson and her partner, Dr. Luckett Johnson are the parents of three adult sons, Jules (Ellie), Vincent and Luckett Anthony, and the grandparents of six (Morgan, Jordan, Alani, Janna, Kai, and Jewel).
