Thanks to the innovative Central Fill pharmacy, Harris Health System patients don’t have to go out of their way, or even leave their homes, to receive their prescriptions. This is a huge improvement over the previous system, which involved patients driving to their health center, taking a ticket, and waiting in a long line to pick up their prescription medications. It took a lot of time out of a patient's day and was inconvenient for those who had mobility issues. Thankfully, things have changed for the better.
Achieving Maximum Patient Convenience
Using cutting-edge robotic technology, Harris Health now fills and delivers prescriptions directly to patients’ homes. The convenience of having prescriptions delivered to their door improves patient compliance with taking their medications. Allowing technology, including robots, to do the work of scanning, filling, and bottling prescriptions gives pharmacists and pharmacy technicians the freedom they need to focus on their clinical duties, including engaging in more patient interaction. When patients have the opportunity to actually talk to their pharmacists, medical outcomes are much better.
This innovative pharmacy solution is available to Harris Health patients in all locations through the MyHealth app. It can be used for both new prescriptions and refills. Patients usually receive their medications on their doorstep within one to three days after they place their order in the MyHealth app.
Virtually any medication can be mailed from Central Fill pharmacy. The only exceptions are controlled substances and medications that must be refrigerated. These must still be picked up in person in the traditional manner.
Technology Makes Orders Virtually Error-Free
Prescriptions are scanned and automatically filled by a robotic assistant. The computers must see the prescription before the fill order is sent to the robots. Because the process is automated and the programming strictly controlled, error is unlikely. In fact, after filling hundreds of thousands of prescriptions, only three have been returned. This rate of extraordinary accuracy improves the pharmacy experience for patients as well.
The Central Fill pharmacy is just one more way Harris Health is improving the lives of its patients every day.
