The medical surgical intermediate care unit at Harris Health System’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital received the silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The award highlights the unit’s exceptional patient care and healthy work environments.

The silver-level Beacon Award means unit staff is continuously learning and achieving optimal patient based on the following criteria:

- Appropriate Staffing and Staff Engagement
- Effective Communications, Knowledge Management, Learning and Development
- Evidence-Based Practice and Processes
- Outcome Measurement
