Three Harris Health System registered nurses and executives are among the 20 Outstanding Nurses for 2019, an award given by the Texas Nurses Association, District 9. The trio — Deven Barriault, Elizabeth ‘Pepe’ Greenlee and Pamela Rhodes Russell — were selected as ‘exemplary’ from greater Houston based on nominations from peers and coworkers.
Barriault, MSN, RN-BC, is a nursing professional development specialist and has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in nursing. She is a lauded coach, educator, leader, mentor and professional nurse by her colleagues and coworkers.
Barriault of Santa Fe has been recognized throughout her nursing career including The Daisy Award from The Daisy Foundation, Good Samaritan Award from the Good Samaritan Foundation and the Betty Lee Evans Award for Nursing Excellence from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She has served as a primary investigator on two research studies and several evidence-based practice projects.
She champions for others and is committed to enhancing standards of care for patients, making data-based evidence research accessible to all nurses and prides herself on training future nurse clinicians, leaders and scientists.
Greenlee, DHA, MSN, RN, CPHQ, is associate administrator of Quality 
Management Systems for Harris Health and is responsible for the system’s quality and performance improvement, risk and patient safety, infection prevention and accreditation. She has a master’s degree in nursing and a doctorate degree in healthcare administration, and is a certified nursing professional in healthcare quality and quality improvement.
Outside of her role at Harris Health, she serves as a disease specific reviewer that conducts audits at healthcare organizations for The Joint Commission, an international healthcare accreditation agency. She is an active member of several professional organizations and has authored or presented on core measures, sepsis, quality and a safety culture.
Greenlee of League City is committed to the nurses at Harris Health and is a revered mentor that staff call on to help them improve their knowledge of performance improvement.
Russell, MHA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, is a nurse executive, advance certified nurse and current associate administrator of Nursing Operations at Harris Health. She began her career at Ben Taub Hospital as a staff nurse, eventually advancing to various leadership positions including head nurse, manager, director and interim chief nursing officer. In these roles, she focused on budgets, staffing, quality measures, retention and planning.
After Russell of Missouri City received her master’s degree in healthcare administration, she participated in many educational endeavors to support nursing and nursing administrators.
She is a member of numerous institutional committees and is a true mentor to staff and students. Her innovative ideas led to using virtual patient observation at Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson hospitals, both part of Harris Health. Russell is admired by Harris Health staff because of her dedicated role as a servant leader.
