We believe clinical research is a cornerstone fo enhancing clinical care while protecting our patients and advancing best practices in healthcare delivery for the community we serve.
The mission of Harris Health's Research and Sponsored Programs is to protect the rights, welfare and well-being of patient participants involved in research within Harris Health. The department manages the administrative review process for all proposed research, focusing on mission alignment, patient safety, operational, financial and special risk issues.
The Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) is the institution's commitment to comply with federal regulations for the protection of patients in research.
Harris Health System (dba for Harris County Hospital District) has been issued the followign federal identification number by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: FWA00000369.
All research must receive approval from Harris Health's Institutional Review Board (IRB) following a rigorous review of all protocols to protect the rights of patients and staff to ensure compensation to Harris Health for resource utilization.
All research involving Harris Health, its patients and staff must be approved by the Harris Health president/chief executive officer prior to data collection or subject recruitment. Harris Health supports well-designed and properly executed research, and is commited to comply with federal regulations and maintain adequate processes for protection of patients.
