Cancer Resource Centers

The Cancer Resource Centers (CRC) at Harris Health System provide education, support, guidance and assistance to patients and survivors living with cancer. Staff help patients throughout their treatment — from the time of their cancer diagnosis to the time they reach the Survivorship Clinic. In addition, CRC staff collaborates with non-profit organizations in the community to bring useful resources to our patients.

Cancer patients, survivors and caregivers are invited to participate in many free educational and support programs available at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and Smith Clinic.

  • Oncology Patient Orientation – provides patients with an overview of what to expect during cancer treatment, available support services and available community resources
  • Education – provides literature and health education resources on cancer and treatment-related topics
  • Navigation – assists patients and caregivers in accessing Harris Health’s programs and support services
  • Financial Resources – refers patients to available community resources for temporary financial assistance with transportation, treatment and living expenses
  • Cancer Support Group – patients, survivors and caregivers share their experience and support each other through art therapy
  • Community Resources – refers patients to non-profit organizations for support with their diagnosis and treatment
  • Support Items – offers donated items such as scarves, hats, wigs, bandanas, blankets and breast prostheses to patients to ease their pain and increase self-esteem as they struggle with the side effects of cancer
