Housing stability, quality, safety, and affordability impact health. Struggling with stable housing or falling back on rent or utilities can result in preventable emergency room visits, inability to stick to medication instructions, and missed health care appointments.
Harris Health System is partnering with Harris County Community Services Department (HCCSD) to administer emergency utilities and rental assistance at certain Harris Health clinics for eligible patients expressing this health-related social need. This partnership with our sister county agency advances Harris Health’s strategic plan of developing our clinics into more integrated health “hubs” that are models for delivering whole person care.
Patients can talk to a clinic social worker if they are experiencing difficulties paying for housing and utilities for a direct connection to our HCCSD partners.
