While no one expects to experience a traumatic event or emergency, it can happen to anyone, at any time and any place. Thousands of people who have received life-saving care at Ben Taub Hospital’s Level I Trauma Center or at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital’s Level III Trauma Center (the busiest Level III trauma center in the state) are living proof of the medical trauma expertise of Harris Health’s dedicated staff.
With an international reputation for excellence and a lasting history in Harris County that dates back to the early 1960s, the Ginni and Richard Mithoff Trauma Center at
Ben Taub Hospital is one of only two adult Level I trauma centers in Harris County. Designated as a Level I Trauma Center in December 1995 by the American College of Surgeons and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Ben Taub Hospital is staffed by acclaimed physicians from
Baylor College of Medicine. The Ben Taub Hospital trauma center provides the highest level of comprehensive trauma care for patients with serious injuries or illness.
Both Ben Taub and LBJ hospitals’ trauma centers serve as regional trauma locations that play a critical role in responding to community emergencies - saving lives and helping those who are seriously injured return back to their communities and families.
