Virtual Tour: Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital's Women & Infants Services Department

The virtual tour of our Women and Infants Services Department is a great way to learn what to expect when it’s time for your baby’s arrival. You probably have other questions about having your baby with us. If your question isn’t answered below, please email your question to BenTaubMaternityTours@harrishealth.org.

Where do I go when it’s time to have my baby?

  • You should enter through the main entrance of the hospital. The circular driveway in front of the main entrance is for drop-offs only (you cannot leave your car there while you check in).
  • Parking is available in the garage, and one parking voucher is gifted to you at the time of delivery.
  • After entering the hospital and checking in with Concierge Services, you will use the purple elevators to go to the third floor where our Women and Infants Services staff will complete your registration.

Can I have visitors in the hospital?
There are visitor limitations due to COVID-19. Maternity, postpartum and neonatal intensive care unit patients who are not COVID-positive may have one healthy partner/parent visitor per day. Since the visitor policy may change as the community spread and transmission of COVID-19 changes, you can call our Patient Customer Relations Department at 713-873-3939 to get the latest information.

Will I have a private room?
Labor and Delivery rooms are private. After the arrival of your baby, you’ll move to one of our Mother and Baby rooms. Our Mother and Baby rooms are semi-private, which means you’ll share a door and a bathroom with another mom, but a wall divides the room so you have plenty of privacy.

How long will I stay in the hospital?
Women who have a vaginal birth may stay at the hospital for up to 48 hours. Women who have a Caesarian delivery may stay at the hospital for up to 72 hours. After you’ve delivered, your care team will talk with you about how long your stay needs to be.

What if I need extra help breastfeeding?
We have specially trained staff to help you and your baby with breastfeeding. After delivery, every mom has a session with a lactation consultant. For those moms who want or need a little extra support, our Lactation Clinic provides follow-up visits at no cost.

What is the Texas Health Steps Clinic?
The Texas Health Steps Clinic at Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital provides infant follow-up visits for any baby born in our hospital at no cost.
