Need Food Now? We Can Help

We care about you and your family. If you need help getting food, we’re here to help you. Here are some ways to get free or low-cost food and other help.

The Houston Food Bank
Call Community Assistance Program (CAP) Navigators at 832-369-9390 or visit the CAP website​ and schedule a phone appointment.
They can help you with:
  • Food stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP)
  • Cash help through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Health insurance—like Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) or Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans
  • Women’s health programs
  • Medicare savings
  • Paying utility bills
  • Finding food pantries and clinics
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) – Help for Moms and Kids
Apply by callng 800-942-3678 or apply online at https://www.texaswic.org/apply 

WIC gives healthy food and support to:
  • Pregnant women
  • Moms with babies
  • Kids under age five (5) (even if parents don’t qualify)
What you get:
  • A shopping card for baby food, fruits, milk and more
  • Help with breastfeeding
  • Recipes and cooking tips
SNAP – Food Stamps
SNAP gives you money each month to buy food like:
  • Fruits, vegetables, meats, milk, bread, snacks
  • Seeds to grow your own food
  • You can even shop online
Who Can Get SNAP?
  • Families with low income (example: A family of four can make up to $4,215/month)
  • Adults 60 and older or people with disabilities may get a faster application through the Texas Simplified Application Project (TSAP)
