Virtual Care

With Harris Health System’s Virtual Care Services, you can now access — from the comfort of home — the same high-quality care you are used to receiving at the doctor's office.

Virtual care visits allow you to save time and cost of travel to see your healthcare provider in person by giving you access to care using your smartphone, tablet or computer. With virtual care, you can discuss symptoms, medical issues and more in real-time through video.

Harris Health patients have access to MyHealth, the online patient portal, 365 days a year. With MyHealth, patients have the option to conduct a video visit and/or an E-visit as well as view their health records.

Patients may also view health records for family members through authorized access. This is called proxy access. Learn more about how to request proxy access.

As an active MyHealth patient, you can:

  • Schedule appointments in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric and other select specialties
  • Conduct video visits and/or E-visits
  • View medication history and request medication refills
  • Request your prescriptions for home delivery (exclusive to MyHealth users)
  • Send and receive secure messages with your healthcare team health center
  • View lab results, immunization history, after visit summaries, etc.
  • Update demographic information
  • Access the MyChart app on your smartphone
  • And much more

While virtual care is not appropriate for emergency situations, it provides you an alternative way to take care of common health conditions.

Benefits of Virtual Care
Whether you live in a remote area or have a busy schedule, consider virtual care as a part of improving your well-being.
Benefits include:

  • Save time: Virtual care allows you to save time traveling to see your healthcare provider and save time from calling health centers. Virtual care for minor medical and behavioral health conditions are less costly compared to emergency room, urgent care center visits or even in-person doctor visits.
  • Convenience: Virtual care allows you to access care in the comfort and privacy of your own home—no need to take time off from work or arrange for childcare.
  • Slowing the spread of infection: Going to the doctor’s office means being around people who may be sick. This can be dangerous for people with underlying conditions or weakened immune systems. Virtual care eliminates the risk of picking up an infection at the doctor’s office.

Examples of Conditions Treated

  • Labs and/or imaging results

  • Sinus infection

Ask My Nurse
Are you wondering whether you should you go to your doctor's office or an emergency center? Harris Health System's Ask My Nurse gives you a quick, easy and free way to decide.

In an emergency center, doctors and nurses must care for the sickest patients first. For others who may not be quite so sick, that may mean a long wait — even if you or someone in your family has a fever, nausea, stomach pains or other symptoms.

To be sure you or your family do not wait unnecessarily in a busy, crowded emergency center, call Ask My Nurse at 713-634-1110. Experienced nurses are available to help you and answer your questions 24/7 daily.

How can you help?
As we continue to build the Center for Virtual Care, we need technology devices like iPads, tablets and smart devices to help our patients who have difficulty getting these devices. This will ensure Harris Health helps patients keep connected to their doctors and specialists. Additionally, we are looking for ways to increase the number of patients included in remote monitoring because this practice keeps patients healthier for longer periods of time.
Increasing access to care throughout Harris County is no small task, but it will make a big impact. To support the Center for Virtual Care, make your gift today and select the Center for Virtual Care
